For over 60 years, Fraunhofer's worldwide R&D network has been working to advance both knowledge and technology. Learn more about how Fraunhofer's applied R&D model has supported industrial competitiveness by directly assisting companies as well as developing the key underlying technologies to advance entire industries.

DEVELOPING KEY TECHNOLOGIES FOR INDUSTRY

When Schott Solar began work on a new, more durable vacuum receiver for its solar thermal power plants, Fraunhofer's scientific expertise not only helped them develop a new product, but set an industry standard.

COMMERCIALIZING INTERNAL RESEARCH

Pronounced thermal gradients created by improved building insulation products can cause moisture-related issues over time. To address this problem, Fraunhofer developed a smart vapor barrier which it successfully commercialized through industry partners.

COMBINING COMPETENCIES FOR INNOVATION

By combining their respective expertises in encapsulants and latent heat storage, BASF and Fraunhofer created a product capable of keeping homes cooler that could still be easily incorporated into construction or retrofit projects.

BRINGING TOGETHER RESOURCES

Fraunhofer Industry Cluster map  Fraunhofer's Innovation Clusters unite members of regional industry and R&D partners whose capabilities supplement Fraunhofer's own. Successful clusters not only stimulate market competition, but create fruitful, lasting collaborations.

Every day, Fraunhofer's global network of institutes helps clients address the research needs that shape their industries.
