TechBridge Wins $1 Million "Innovation Ecosystem" DOE Grant

The Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Energy Systems (CSE) announced a $1 million award from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) to fund a joint clean technology commercialization program. The Fraunhofer CSE TechBridge Program will lead an effort with the New England Clean Energy Council (NECEC), Massachusetts Clean Energy Center (MassCEC) and the Association of Cleantech Incubators of New England (ACTION).

CSE Discusses Industry Development Mission at National Academy of Sciences

On November 1st, 2010, Fraunhofer CSE's Executive Director Roland Schindler delivered a presentation to the National Academy of Sciences, discussing CSE's educational mission to provide applied research training to next generation of innovators as well as Fraunhofer's support for industry at large. CSE at CESBP 2010

Building Enclosure Lead Dr. Jan Kosny, CSE's most recent addition to its senior technical staff, joined international experts in building physics at the inaugural Central European Symposium on Building Physics, taking place September 13th through 15th in Cracow, Poland. Dr. Kosny, formerly of Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), chaired Session 11: Building Enclosures - Experimental Tests on Tuesday, September 14th. In addition, he presented two papers at the conference: "Thermal balance of a wall with PCM-enhanced thermal insulation" and "Numerical and experimental analysis of building envelopes containing blown fiberglass insulation thermally enhanced with Phase Change Material (PCM)". Both papers were delivered as part of Session 6 on Monday, September 13th.


CSE Presents at EuPVSEC Conference

Fraunhofer CSE delivered an oral presentation at the 25th European Photovoltaic Solar Energy Conference and Exhibition (EuPVSEC) in Valencia, Spain discussing the Center's recent work with structured glass in PV modules. The presentation, entitled "Impact of Structured Glass on Light Transmission, Temperature and Power of PV Modules", was based on research undertaken in conjunction with MIT and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) and was given at session 4CO.20: Optical Components and Module Characteristics on Wednesday, September 8th.


CSE Named Research Team Leader for US DoE Building America Program

Fraunhofer CSE today announced that it was selected to serve as a Research Team Leader for the Building America Program. Building America, an industry-driven research program sponsored by the US Department of Energy, aims to accelerate the development and adoption of advanced building energy technologies in new and existing homes. Fraunhofer CSE’s team of scientists will focus on applying new technologies to dramatically increase the scale and depth of home energy efficiency retrofits. Specific residential projects in Massachusetts, Texas, and Maine will be announced near the end of this year.

Albuquerque, NM Chosen as Site of New Solar Testing Lab

CFV Solar Test Laboratory, a PV certification test company jointly owned by CSA Group, the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems ISE, the Fraunhofer USA Center for Sustainable Energy Systems CSE, and VDE Testing and Certification Institute, today announced that they will locate their new solar module testing laboratory in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

CSA Group, VDE Institute, Fraunhofer CSE and ISE Announce Joint Agreement for Photovoltaic Module Testing Services

CSA Group and VDE will work with the Fraunhofer USA Center for Sustainable Energy Systems (CSE) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) to jointly open a new solar technology testing facility in the U.S. Southwest.
