The Fraunhofer CSE's PV Module Innovation Group offers clients access to the following capabilities and areas of expertise:
- Modeling: We have experts specializing in mechanical, optical and thermal modeling based on a variety of software packages to explore the theoretical capabilities of various module designs.
- Fabrication: Our labs have full capabilities for taking cells to mounting ready modules.
- Durability Testing: Today's photovoltaic modules have to withstand environmental conditions ranging from extreme humidity and varying temperature gradients to mechanical stresses that push the limits of most cost-effective materials. Our lab has the equipment to simulate these factors under normal and accelerated conditions.
- Characterization: We offer materials expertise and robust capabilities for advanced module characterization, including module energy yield testing and failure analysis using EL and IR imaging.
- Quality Analysis: We are capable of analyzing critical quality aspects such as durability, degradation, compliance with advertised characteristics, energy output and performance yields.
- Design: Our lab team aids customers with the design, fabrication and testing of PV modules incorporating new materials such as advanced encapsulants, edge sealants, back sheets and solar glass, while respecting the necessary balance between cost, efficiency and manufacturability.
