The Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Energy Systems (CSE) is looking for a Building Energy Simulation Engineer to join its Building Energy Efficiency Group. This is an opportunity to work with one of the world's leading research groups, including our partners at the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) and the Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics (IBP), to develop, model, test, and evaluate cutting-edge building efficiency solutions for a wide variety of clients. You'll be a key part of a dynamic team that shares a commitment to engineering excellence, combined with an excitement about sustainable energy technology.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Modeling the whole-building energy performance and equipment sizing impact of novel energy-efficient building technologies
- Developing custom models in whole-building energy models for advanced energy efficiency technologies
- Analyzing and evaluating the performance of advanced building technologies from in situ technology demonstration projects, and extrapolating the performance to other contexts (building types, climates, etc.)
Require Experience and Education:
- Extensive experience using one or more mainstream whole-building energy modeling tools (e.g., EnergyPlus, TRNSYS, DOE-2, etc.) to evaluate the whole-building energy consumption and equipment sizing impact of novel building technologies
- Experience developing customized models for advanced energy efficiency technologies in one or more mainstream whole- building energy modeling tools
- Thorough understanding of the energy flows and operational principles of major building end uses (particularly building envelope, HVAC)
- Experience calibrating whole-building energy models with energy consumption measurements (both whole-building and system-level) from buildings
- Experience applying WUFI to model heat and moisture transport in building enclosures
- Publication of technical articles related to whole-building energy simulation
- Advanced degree in architectural, civil, or mechanical engineering preferred
About Fraunhofer CSE:
The Fraunhofer Center for Sustainable Energy Systems (CSE) is a contract R&D organization based in Cambridge, MA. CSE, created as a partnership of the Fraunhofer Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE), the State of Massachusetts and MIT, is dedicated to serving the applied research needs of the sustainable energy industry, helping established industry players and newcomers alike develop clean energy technologies from the laboratory to the production line. The Center focuses on two key areas: building energy efficiency and next generation photovoltaic modules development.
