MIT Professor of Building Technology
Biography
An expert on green building theory and technology, Professor Norford has been an MIT faculty member since 1988. His work has included studies of natural ventilation, control of HVAC systems, equipment diagnostics, and low-energy cooling systems. He is initiating work on urban heat islands, with a focus on the interaction of buildings and the natural environment. He has studied building energy use in many countries, including Russia, Pakistan, China, Norway and the UK.
Prior to coming to MIT, Norford worked as a research engineer at Princeton University and as a nuclear power engineer with the US Navy and the US Department of Energy.
